(Home) Rear windscreen

Just had my rear windshield shatter, the car was parked on a gentle slope on an angle, it appeared to pop when I closed the sliding side door, velly strange, a metallic sound similar to a metal ruler being dropped on the ground followed by the usual crash. Anybody else have this problem? I suspected foul play at first, however I did not get a close look at the rear window beforehand as it was dark. The glass replacement company (Auto-glass)are having great difficulty getting one, they have told me they will now have to get one through the dealer, meaning Toyota and it could take between two to six weeks.

You could try BBC spares, a rear screen isn't listed on the web page, but they may still have them, or might be able to get them quicker than 6 weeks

Its not unknown for rear screens to shatter. I know someone who had a rear screen blow out on a motorway once, and the glass fitter said they replace about 4 a year. Something to do with the heating elements apparently.

Doesn't help at all, but my wife had a rear screen on her Rover 200 shatter due to a 'hot spot' on the rear screen element, not an uncommon problem. As regards a replacement rear screen, try ringing around the other windscreen companies, not just the nationals, some of the independents will have other sources of supply.

Regards Rob.
