(Home) Townace charging/wiring

Sorry I.m not an owner!! I work for an autoelectrical firm in the bottom left hand corner of Wales. I am currently stuck with a problem on a 1989 townace diesel. The alternator is overcharging and causing a constant discharge. I have traced this to the field wire between the alternator and external regulator (mounted behind the glovebox)picking up a permanent earth. Anybody have any ideas where the problem might be or where I can obtain a wiring diagram to help in my investigations?

There's some information on Ace Answers. look under "Dashboard and electrics" then select "Other electrics" and its titled "Alternator Overcharging"

By the sounds of it, it may have something to do with the avalanche zenor diode, or it may need a new regulator.

Hope that is of some help.

Thanks for the response. It is definitely the wiring as the earth circuit is present on the wire with both the alternator and the regulator disconnected.
