(Home) Changing brake discs

How do i take the front discs off an 1989 townace super extra 4x4? I'm trying to do it at the moment but I think I need to lock the front axle in to remove the center bolt in the hub. Am doing it right?

Cheers
Dan

that bolt's only the start of it. The whole hub assy must come off as the discs are bolted on from the back...

Actually, it shouldn't be tight, that bolt. A hand on the outer CV should be enough to hold it steady, and hitting the end of the spanner/ bar with a mallet (notice I didn't say lumphammer, tempted tho I was :-) ) ought to shock it free easiest.

Yep, I finally got it sorted. Didn't know about those little dome washers though.
Anyway I basically had the same problem as others with the pulsating brakes on application, and my theory was 100% correct. Warped discs.
I had them machined, threw them back on, and now it feels really weird having smooth brakes. Spose i'll get used to them eventually.
However, I took them for a 10 min run, and I'm quite surprised how hot they really get. Makes sense that if they are getting that hot, and you drive through water, that sure as sh*t they're going to warp.
Is that the norm, is it only me?
