(Home) Starting it won't fire..why

Its just been completly re-built, (my Townace 2ltr)
I,m told the engine is based on a Toyota Camry so if any one is full of knowledge as to why it wont even fire PLEASE let me know.
Everything has been replaced AS NEW.
Diesel is coming from the injectors, so its NOT fuel starvation, but it just wont fire let alone start.

Thank anyone

Lack of compression/ incorrect timing/ no glow/ fuel system no totally bled...

David has listed the essentials that you need.
Yes, the 2CT Townace engine is similar to the Camry but not identical. The camshaft pulleys are different - that I know _ depending on the CC. Have you mixed parts ?
What have you checked and what is not yet checked ?
How extensive a rebuild was it ? - more detail would help.
Was the pump off ? Is it a new pump ?
Are the timing marks aligned - all 3 of them ?
Have you power to the glow plugs and are you sure the're heating ? ( take one out, wet it with diesel and and short it across the battery for about 5 seconds - it should steam )
Can you feel the compression - put a socket on the crankshaft pulley and turn it thru 360. If your not convinced - slacket a glow plug ( be careful it does'nt shear off )and listen for the PfSSST. Obviously a real compression test ( with a gauge ) would be best.
Just because you,ve diesel at the injector pipes, is no guarantee of an easy start. I had. But it took a whole days grinding - and 3 batteries - for me to get ALL the air out !

Stephen, is yours a 2c or a 3c?

David,
2CT.
Oops! have I blundered ?

no, just wondering... 3c is longer stroke than 2c but same bore. Takes a different cam belt. I'm a bit befuddled about this cam pulley issue you had, y'see. Crank- cam is 2:1 reduction, and a different cam pulley would imply crank and pump pulleys differ too...

Are you sure yours isn't a 3c (2.2l?)

David,
I assume it must be a 2ct engine. Timing belt I put on it was for a 2ct ! ( 1970 cc ) Although it's no guarantee - the model no is correct for a 2ct as well.
Just thinking about the relationship between the stroke length and the number of teeth required on the pump, crank and cam pulleys befuddles me !
But, when it would'nt start after the replacement head was put on I matched up the teeth on the cam pulleys and found that the replacement head teeth ended up out of sync with the old head. Also the replacement head always gave a little slack in the cam belt between the pump and the cam ( when on the timing marks ), it was never just a neat fit, this disappeared when I swopped them over.
