(Home) Sticky stuff removal from bodywork

i've removed the sticker on my 89 4x4 td, and i need a better idea to remove the sticky stuff off. i've tried tea tree oil, turp, metho, petrol, thinners. all these make the sticky stuff go gooey, but doesn't remove it. i've also used a scourer, rags, sandpaper, but all these get clogged up to easy.

help!!!

Have you tried gaffa tape? or hot air gun and rub with your thumb? The problem is notorious and you may end up requiring a respray

Last year I successfully removed some very stubborn sticky patches from the paintwork using my wife's make-up remover wipes. I think they were "No7" from Boots. The ingredients list looks horrific - all sorts of organic solvents.

I just have to be different - What is the sticky stuff, can I buy it in a tube? I want to stick some plastic "Beware of the dog" signs on a metal garage door had no luck so far.

When I've tried almost everything you mentioned believe it or not WD40 not a substitute has done the trick, it may take two or three applications.

Ian, about the best I've come across for that is automotive adhesive that comes in a spray can. Once had a Vovlo 240 and the trim came away from the door. The ONLY stuff that held it was that. That was 3 years ago, my mate has it now and it's still solid.
