Hello Ian,

If you follow the link above "To Return To Home Page" and then click on the box on the left "Insurance", you will find a selection of companies that existing owners use.

A couple that you haven't listed as trying are Privilege & Norwich Union, numbers found on the insurance page.

hi mark and thank's for the info , i have phoned a few brokers and they are nearly all arround the £650 mark so i think it will be with direct line again it hurts a bit when you have full no claims and i am a coach driver to boot at 46 i thought it might come down a bit but i suppose while all the kid's are having claim's paid out the cost is felt by every one not that all kid's are bad driver's i just feel the way you are insured should reflect on your driving and how many claims you have or not had , all the best for the new year mark regards ian ,,,,,

Hi Ian. Just a thought matey...don't tell the insurance company you are a coach driver. I'm an HGV driver and for some reason, professional drivers get higher quotes from ins companies.

Lifesure. It doesn`t mention it on their site, but give them a ring as they insure imports as well. My MasterAce was cheapest at £600 a year anywhere else.... Lifesure did it for £360.

Just had my renewal notice from LV £204 full comp protected NCB (made one this year for sliding door damage came close to £1000), with £100 xs. For business and pleasure, wife included (though she can't drive!), screen cover not subject to the excess. Listed as a Toyota Townace Royal Lounge 2.0 Diesel Turbo Automatic Import 8 seats. All correct bar the 8 seats, a RL only has 7. And I live in Bristol the UK car crime capital.
Frizzel are the brokers through CSMA.

Just tried Liverpool Victoria (twice), waste of time if you are new business and do not match their very restrictive list. They do not list Toyota Townace Super Extra, and this was before being asked if 2WD or Manual. In fact they stated that unless your DVLA reg doc lists the model as TDi, they will not insure for new business. I mentioned that they will lose a lot of business this way and the operative mentioned that they are trying to get away from insuring import vehicles. Where is the business sense in that? generally speaking, most owners (judging from postings on this site) seem to be responsible. And off all the Jap imports I would argue that a Townie is one of the least 'nickable'in the desirability stakes for car theives!
Oh well, back to Direct Line £310 plus the high excess

- (#7375) Marcus Rogers, 2 Feb 04 09:16

Yes I do sympathise. Unfortunately the Townace is probably just a name in a database to them. They don't understand what it is. Fortunately I moved to them from Direct Line about two years ago and fortunately my vehicle actually fits their description. So I guess I count as existing business.

Wanna buy a Royal Lounge badge?

- (#7375) Ian Dunse (Derbs), 2 Feb 04 09:52

Badges, £14 for a bit of plastic, from Toyota. If it does not say on the log book, how are you to know it's not a Royal Lounge?

- (#7375) Clive (Bristol), 2 Feb 04 10:21

Are you any relation to Ken Dodd, Clive? :-)

- (#7375) Ian Dunse (Derbs), 3 Feb 04 01:52

I just like to say how tickled I am... ;-)
- (#7375) Clive (Bristol), 3 Feb 04 02:47

Now I hardly think you would pass for a diddyman Clive :-)

After the probs with Liverpool Victoria, I thought I would check the archives for alternatives. Rang Footman James, and given a premium of £204 (£106 cheaper than Direct Line!), £100 excess (instead of £350), FC, Breakdown + European cover, legal cover, hire car, PNCD inc of tax, no immob req'd. Wife as policy holder, myself as named (I'm policy holder on our other car), both late 30's. Excellent service as well. This site and a bit of perseverence, has saved me a fair bit of money, and given us an improved level of cover to boot!
