(Home) Serial numbers, and parts

hello all, have a 2ct diesel engine and don,t know how to find it,s year of manufacture--bought the engine manual( toyota part number.) and must say--it,s a wonderful manual--and would like to say, the folks at wight motors (isle of wight)were very helpful--but there is no info on serial numbers and engine identification in the manual--as i only have an engine, identification is quite difficolt !!
i might explain, i live in the usa--and toyota dealers are of no help whatsoever!! we have very few small diesels here !!(we have the epa to thank for that) so, getting any kind of info is extremely difficult...
i found you folks on the web, and have gotten more info on your pages, than any other source--for that, i thank you--very much !!
my question is, how do i find out what year my engine is, and is there a source for parts in the usa??
i don,t mind buying parts from the uk, but often the postage, exceeds the cost of the part !!!
thank you, and i wish all, a very happy new year.

Umm, what WAS the engine fitted to? Is it a US spec vehicle? I believe some Camrys and Corollas stateside came with diesel for a couple of years...

Have you noted the engine number? Can you perhaps email me pics of the engine? We might be able to age and/ or confirm original fitment then...

aren't you the guy that exported his Townace to the States? As David says let us have the engine number and any other info and either David or I can help you. If it is a Townie then look under the little flap of carpet in front of the driver's seat to expose the VIN plate. Chassis number would be good as we could then give you exact year of manufacture.

BTW there are some very good Toyota dealers in the States who can get parts from Japan cheaper than the UK.
