(Home) Owner locations

I was wandering, where do all the contributers to this forum live? I just wanted to get an idea of how spread out all of our Aces et al are. Maybe it would be good to get a comparison of insurance, fuel prices, etc.?
BTW, I live in Bicester, Oxfordshire.

- (#7526) Al Bickley, 5 Jan 04 16:56

Newtownards (just east of Belfast), N. Ireland

- (#7526) david miller, 5 Jan 04 17:14

Good Idea, then we need a map on Ace Answers with a pin in each Ace owner location.
I'm - East Belfast, N Ireland

- (#7526) stephen judge, 5 Jan 04 18:00

Isle of Wight as far south as you can go
- (#7526) phil , 5 Jan 04 19:08

At the AceJam in the New Forest it was suggested that we put our location against our name, when posting. Clive (Bristol).

- (#7526) Clive (Bristol), 6 Jan 04 02:45

I live just off Castle Lane in Bournemouth, my insurance costs £287 full comp full business use with LV, fuel prices 77.9 ish and no B5 Bio-Diesel.

Make my own Diesel engine fuel about 30p a litre (mostly tax). Insurance with LV through CSMA £280 full everything. Clive, Stoke Gifford, Bristol.

- (#7526) Clive (Bristol), 6 Jan 04 04:28

I live just south of Chesterfield on the edge of the Peak District. Plenty of hills to give me poor fuel consumption and remote icy roads on which to engage the 4WD. Just renewed insurance with LV via CSMA - £173, full everything.

(I believe most of us oldies are still registered on the members list, which gives locations, accessible from the home page)

- (#7526) Ian Dunse (Derbs), 6 Jan 04 07:18

Northwich, Cheshire. Driving in small town and country lanes, with short school runs = fuel consumption 25 to 28 mpg ; 2WD 2.2TD Townace.

My splendid Masterace can mostly be seen travelling it's trouble free way through the roads of Leicestershire, from my home town of Loughborough.
However, this weekend, a trip to the Great Wen is planned and, this is the exciting bit, I might push it up to around 60 mph on the M1 (if the built in "speed governor", sitting in the passenger seat, allows it!!!

I live just south of Preston in Lancs.
Insurance for 2.8 Hiace 4x4 supercustom is just over £381.00 (uk)- full everything with Liverpool Victoria.

There seems to be a pattern developing - in as much as when the bus is squeeky clean in and out (not too often these days) the chances of being stopped increase disturbingly.
Reasons are;
People wanting to buy it (cheaply of course)
Police trailing me and then wanting to do a spot check(for no reason whatsoever)
People shouting at me, afraid I am going to reverse into their vw sharen (for no reason whatsoever)
In over 20 odd years of motoring I have never had so much unwanted attention as in the last 11 months.
Wonder if I need a cleverly worded sticker in the rear window?!

Al,

There isn't an actual "Bristol Ace Owners" club as such I was just making the point that there are a few contributers to this forum based in and around Bristol and I must have seen 20-30 Aces on the road.

Work it out yourself. My insurance $240 NZ. diesel last time I looked was 59.9 cents per litre Exchange rate is $1 = 37p. We do pay a Road user mileage charge on diesels at $105 per 5000 klms which is in addition to our normal yearly registration (Road Tax) of around $208. I think you are all being ripped off in the UK when some of the prices I see for repairs. A cambelt replacement about 1/3 the price you pay. Basically what you pay in pounds we pay in dollars. Mind you your weekly wage is probably greater than ours. We also have a good import used car parts situation as there are heaps of these vehcles on our roads and Toyota is the biggest seller of motor vehcles here. I could probably source cheaper parts and ship them over cheaper than your present arrangements.

Seems like I am the furthest away to date. I live in Hobbiton (Lord of the Rings ) territory in New Zealand. Ex Pom from Middlesbrough. I bought a 1990 Litace 2ct version about 2 months ago. Done 148000 klm. Goes great. Just towed my caravan on short holiday. Buzzed up and down the hills no problem. water temperature never left the centre point even with the outside temperature being around 25 degrees cent. Seems to do about 25mpg with the caravan on so very happy. Happy to say my insurance is is around 220 nz dollars or 60 pounds per year. Diesel around 25 pence per litre.

1990 superextra 2.0ltr tdi manual 160 k on clock, 25 to 30 mpg all short runs, likes boiling up if you go over 60mph.. really must check the fan one day. also lots of other townaces down here 10+...

- (#7526) neil (torbay), 7 Jan 04 18:58

Aultbea, on the Scottish West coast just North of Gairloch. Ullapool is a further 45 miles North, and Tesco (Inverness) is 79 miles. Have done 20,000 miles in my first year as a Townie owner, and it is a brilliant bit of kit - but I fear I could be on to my third engine... such is life as a Townie fan.

- (#7526) Tom (Wester Ross), 7 Jan 04 19:22

One of many Bristol Ace Owners (almost worth starting a seperate chapter, like the Hells Angels! only not so anti-social!)

Had the Bus for 18 months and with relatives in Skegness and Perranporth and Cornwall my 1991 Super Extra 2WD 2L TD gets a good long run very frequently. Temp has never exceeded centre,

Never loses any coolant only had to top up oil twice in that time and those were minimal.

Only problems encountered with the vehicle have been Wiper blades and rear anti roll bar bushes. Wiper blades obtained at local market for 50p for pack of 2 and the bushes ordered and recieved from Toyota within 2 days at a cost of £1.20+vat each.

Never had a vehicle this old and this reliable.

Heres looking forward to many more years of happy motoring.

Cheers
Tony

Sorry about the 5!! entries. I didnt realise that any of them had been posted as the computer was acting like the site was down. Ain't technology wonderful!

- (#7526) chris turner, 8 Jan 04 09:03

Oh, I thought you were trying to make up the numbers or something (?)
Tony Meese: Are the "Bristol Ace Owners" real? Is there anyone who is in any other type of organisation?
I am in the National Street Van Association, and have put my Liteace on show a few times.
I showed my Estima at the "Van Nationals" at Billing Aquadrome in August with the Engine covers removed. A lot of people were surprised by where the Engine was!
