(Home) Jam 2004 Bridport #1

I am planning to visit Bridport this Saturday, so as it's cropped up a few times recently, I shall have to get a wiggle on, and organise the Bridport jam.

To recap, a friend runs a small farmers type pub near Bridport. It has a field next to it that he uses for caravanning and camping. It's on a bit of a slope of course, being on the rolling hills of Dorset, but the positives are, its easy access to the pub which does excellent food, and has a toilet and shower with access from the campsite. It is a bit out in the sticks though, but a 10-15 minute drive will get you to Bridport, or the seaside.

At the risk of being bogged down with suggestions, does any one have a preference for dates?

Dave,
I'm thinking of May again for Brean, but can make it earlier to fit in/around. I'm seeing the site manager next week so you should have an idea of date(s) before me.

Hi Clive.
Assuming that the Brean jam is around the 15th of May, and the Woodvale jam is on again around the 7th of August, that leaves June and July. Now they usually have a party at some stage during the summer, but it’s not arranged yet. This usually involves an outside bar in a marquee, live entertainment, a barbeque, and possibly a pig spit roast. Oh yes, and the inside bar is sometimes open until 4 or 5 am. It can be a bit noisy, and the campers don't usually get much sleep. Mind you if you are planning to sleep in a royal lounge without an air bed, you won't get much sleep anyway.
I should have more info on this on Saturday, so I will let you know.

Hi Dave(Bournemouth).
Regarding Ace Jam,what is the pub called?,as I live in Bridport and probably know where it is,and will be attending my first AceJam in our SpaceCruiser!.
So I have a few more months left yet to finish last bits of work. Some slight bodywork needs finishing plus a bit of spraying and she'll be ready!
Also know someone else who own a SpaceCruiser and trying to get them involved as well.
Well keep us all posted
keep up the great work on a fantastic site

Bridport Ace Jam

I have provisionally booked the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of July 2004 at the Five Bells Inn at Whitchurch Canicorum, just to the west of Bridport in Dorset off the A35. The post code is DT6 6RH, and mine hosts are Pat and Laurie Hawkins.

Its well off the beaten track and the approach road is a narrow winding single track road, that goes up steeply before descending again before the pub, so its best to take it slowly.

Camping in tents or vans is £5 per night, and £6 for caravans.

I’m not too sure about the marquee, but there will be a number of gazebo’s for us to occupy if the weather is against us, and I have arranged for a barbeque for the Saturday night. Tracey, Penny, Tanner and myself will be occupying the shed, sorry chalet, so if you need a hot drink, we can handle it.

Laurie is usually open until late, or early depending on your point of view. Mind you he did also say that the licensing magistrate only lives two doors away, but as it’s his local, and there’s never any trouble, its not a problem.

do any of these jams ever happen in the yorkshire area?

- (#7583) jane, 11 Feb 04 16:53

Nearest one to you last year was Woodvale on the West coast. Not heard from Paul as to this year. You could always organise one yourself.

I'd be up for a Yorkshire/Northern gathering.
