(Home)Fan noise

Sorry to be thick but can anyone tell me what the fan noise is that I hear when I turn the ignition on of my 91 Townie. The van still has the viscous fan for cooling the engine. the noise is not the heater fan.

Many thanks

Does it come from the dash?
I have a fan like noise that gets on my nerves, it is not the main heater fan but only comes on if I have the heater fan selected. I have climate control when the main fan stops the air flow stops but this noise goes on! Is this one of the same?
Also any idea why the center dash vents blow cold, with the selector on hottest, on all but the two right hand vent directions?

The sensor for climate control (behind little grille at driver's knee) has a fan in it to sample cabin temp.

Clive, that's normal as I recall- in the other positions the fan blows straight into those vents. Funny, I can't do that with the Suzuki, and I miss it...

David,
You know I've had the upper dash apart several times, even went as far as trying to get a replacement heater fan.
Should have known you would have the answer!
The vent question was raised by an other owner, I nearly always have it set to far right or middle so would not have noticed.
Thankyou
Clive

As part of continually improving the online Ace Handbook I recently added a diagram that may help here. See Maintenance/cabin ventilation/flow paths.
I have climate control but I've never noticed this fan noise, perhaps mine's u/s.
One thing I have noticed with both front and rear systems is that if the vent control is in the middle position and the fan on auto then the fan doesn't start until the matrix warms up.

Thanks Dave,
Sad thing is I have that flow chart in three different manuals, if only I thought of looking.
Online handbook worth looking through again.
Cheers

Fixed for now.
There I was contorted to try and look up the under side of the lower dash, had my inspection mirror, but found that I needed to take the can of computer cleaner with me first, pulled a muscle and took my frustration out on the lower dash. Result noise almost gone and the upper light of the heater controls now comes on, been intending on fixing that for two years. Moral - give it a good thump first. Now where did I put that Deep Heat?
