i have just bought a 1984 model f and cant get the heater to blow warm air also under the front passenger footwell carpet there is a small plastic cover which seems to have be a filler for something can anyone help

With the engine hot, lie on your back and get you head under the front bumper in the middle. There are two hoses, supply and return for the heater. One the supply will have a valve. Check that the hose back towards the engine is hot. If yes, see if you can operate the valve by hand - it may be stuck - if it moves ok get back in and see if the heater is now working. If no then you have an airlock/low level coolant/heater blocked off by previous owner. If yes then the control needs investigating.
Filler in footwell - no idea, but while you are under there have a look for that. Maybe the heater matrix leaks and thats a drain?

Small plastic cover in the passenger footwell is the window wash bottle.

I don't know how many times I've told people about the rare front passenger window washer bottle, and there I go and forget it myself. Must be old age.
