(Home) Diesel Spacecruiser

Hi Clive.
A friend told me the other day that a diesel SpaceCruiser was released, don't know if he was pulling my leg or what. Apperently it is white with a red stripe across the tailgate, ring any bells?,ever heard of a diesel SpaceCruiser,I haven't,maybe worth looking in to.
Just thought I'd mention it see if anybody knew
Cheers

Spacey was only imported into UK in 1.8, 2.0 & 2.2 petrol engine formats. At that time diesel was not popular in UK, hence no import of a diesel version. Only diesels are Town/Master/Liteace models destined for Japan, Russia & other territories. If there is a spacey with a diesel, it's either a transplant or really it's an import model in disguise.

Hi Rob.
I know they didn't do a diesel spacey in the uk, but was one ever made?,did they actually produce one?

It was only called the 'Spacecruiser' in the UK as far as I know, so the answer would be 'No'.
However, the equivalent 'Tarago' in Australia was sold in small numbers with the 2C diesel (non-turbo).
The US only got Petrol as well.
So it seems that apart from a small number of Aussie ones, Japan was the only place that got diesels.

But that is not certain - maybe some other Asian countries?

It certainly exists. The Euro parts cd shows a Model F designated CR21. And searching the model database on the cd shows only a small number produced, but in both right and left drive, and for Euro, Australasian, and general markets!

Some early Townace are identical to the Spacecruiser (Tarago, Model F), on the out side, barring the the raised roof, also similar inside. They have the fixing points for A/C but not installed on UK ones. Can't say I've ever seen one, but would not have thought of looking. Bet you we don't see one of those at an Ace Jam!

I saw a very strange looking Townie/Spacecruiser four years ago parked in Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside. It looked like a Spacecruiser but it had the Master Ace Surf head light arrangement and a tailgate mirror. It was very basic like a Spacecruiser and it had a diesel badge on the tailgate, however it did not display a Model F badge or any other badges. It was A registered and in poor condition. It was right hand drive. Could this have been a diesel Spacecruiser or a very early Townie? I have never seen one like it since.
