Hi John,

The idle up switch (for use when warning up the engine push the switch to increase engine speed)when not warming up engine, have the idle switch turned off

That is what it says in my townace/liteace 85/97 hand book, even i never knew that until i looked it up for you.

Dennis, I think that may be when warming up the interior. The engine revs only increase if the heater fan is on. I believe the concept is to prevent the battery draining.

I thought it was for keeping the engine at a constant idle speed for when the air conditioning was on (to prevent strain on the engine)?
When starting mine, I just rest my foot on the accelerator pedal keeping it at about 900RPM for a minute or so.

The Idle up switch does indeed raise idle a little, by pulling back on the throttle lever on the pump, using a vacuum take off via a solenoid valve. The Air con does the same thing, via another solenoid to the same lever. If your revs drop when a/c is switched on, then this system is not working. The whole point of the system is that the a/c being on automatically raises the revs slightly to account for the massive load the a/c compressor puts on the engine. The idle up switch is to allow for faster warming up in the winter.

Regards Rob.
