(Home) Idle speed sounds frightening

My '84 spacecruiser seems to idle at a minimum of 2 on the rev counter all the time and sounds way too fast. I've noticed postings about idle up switches, has mine got one ? I think I have a faulty voltage regulator if that has any bearing...

Idle up on Diesel.
Is your choke fast idle cam stuck open? Not sure which carb you have so can't say for sure where it is, on my old one it was at the front near the inspection window on the carb. Check none of the vacuum pipes are fouling the cam action.

I have just cured mine of that problem.
I was the secondary throttle butterfly shaft siezing.
I had to strip it and relieve the shafe with fine emery, then lubricate.

er yes but have you any idea of the work involved and size of files? Is there anything in particular you are looking for as most of it you will already know or will be generic for most cars. I don't mind scanning a few pages.
