(Home) Seat belts

Hi all,

Does anyone know are there any fixing points for a 3 point seat belt on a townace? I assume that they will be on the rear seats if any at all.
It not a big problem as I can make my own floor fittings from an old set of Mini belts and some angle iron a welder and grinder 8-), just it would be easier to buy a full kit.
Cheers
Patrick

Unfortunately most of the mounting points in the townace are just holes in the vertical pilars and hidden behind plastic cladding. I have fitted three point seat belts by making up plates with nuts welded to them, positioning them behind the holes and pop riviting them in place. To get them in place requires the plates to pulled up with a piece of wire. A fiddely and frustrating job but it can be done. The plastic cladding has to be removed and holes drilled in line with the existing chassis holes. The plates need to be as big as possible to spread the load.

Thanks for this Mark, The garage supplying the car are looking into supplying the belts, however if they "wimp out" I will do it my self, using your method.
Thanks again

The garage could not do it, Did not want the responsibility.

Securon make suitable reinforcing plates as well as the belts, so you should be able to buy them at the same time. The bolts are 7/16 UNF and so sourcing the nuts and making your own is quite a job. The hardest part of fitting the belts is removing and re-fitting the trim.
In July 2001 I did a lengthy write-up. It's in the archives, Bodywork/Seats, the first thread "Seat belts". There are many more comments there.
