(Home) Rear wheel bearings

Can anyone please describe how to change these and also whether there is a pattern kit available from motor factors etc.?

pattern kit, yes. Easy job? NO! The halfshaft pulls out after removing the four fasteners on the brake backplate. There's retaining ring to grind off (new one comes with the bearing kit), then the bearing will press off quite easily. New one goes on the same way, but the retainer is a hassle. Has to be heated to expand it, then pressed on. You'll need access to a press long enough to let the halfshaft into...

N/S rear bearing has been a little noisy for the last 4000K. Does'nt seem to be deteoriating fast. Is there any maintenance i.e. lube points, I can do now to stave off the inevitable change.

Nope, sealed bearing. I suppose you could pull the shaft and pop the oil seal off the bearing to repack, but failure mode is likely to be marking of the race so wouldn't help.
Maybe pull it and replace it with the outer race half-a-turn round, put the load on a fresh bit?
