(Home) Crankshaft big end bearings

before christmas the big end bearings went on my townie and was parked up and left while i decided what to do. After spending copious ammounts of money on it sorting the usual overheating problem out i am reluctant to just get rid for scrap. So the question is has anybody ever done the big ends on a townie before or should i forget it and get rid to start again. Townie is 2.0 td auto 4wd 1990. Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated.

If there is no damage to the crank or casings, I believe that you could replace them by removing the crossmember and droping the sump. then you can change them one at a time without too much trouble.
