Hi, I put in an electric fan today in my 1987 1.8l petrol liteace. we also had to repair a cracked pipe on the radiator. The fan is on a switch at the moment manual operated. We drove home about(40miles)but after getting about 13 with the fan on it started to overheat big time. We stopped and limped on....till we eventually got 40 yrds from home and i thought it was going to crack the head it got so hot??? Dad got the fan off rover 218 rover 2.0, but i'm sure it's too small. About 12" diameter. we were wondering if it's ok to fit in another one by it's side, i also have my suspisions the radiator is blocked....... However when we were checking for holes we put air line thro and blocked of pipes, pressure was there????? Coolent in, run to get rid of trapped air??? It's acually worse now than when the viscous fan was on(bodged on by liquid metal and a snapped of drill bit to run continuously!) The rad cap looks sound and seal is good with tight fit.what else can i try??

If someones bodged the viscous - then they were masking a problem - sounds like the problem was not necessarily the fan.
Trawl the archives, test for head gasket symptoms, make sure all the air is out of the cooling system, rad cap ok? etc.
