(Home) Oil leak on to rear tyre

I have a 86, 2lt space cruiser, no real problems with, except I started to get a whinning noise from the of the van.I had a look under the back could smell a burning smell, there was some fluid on the inside of the off side tyre. I checked the brake fluid level and it was ok.I then took the cruiser for a brake check at kwik fit, they said i needed brake shoes but they did not want to fit them because there was oil or grease getting in to the drum which would ruin the new brake shoes, which was fair aNOTH.tHEY SAID IT WAS A GARAGE JOB and it looked like a ceal had gone.I haVE PHONED A COUPLE of garages they say different things, would be very greatful for any infomation some one could give me, as to seeing if it is a big job or expensive.

Likely to be the oil seal on the half shaft. I think you have to pull the shaft to fit it, may as well fit a bearing while you are there.
