(Home) Alternator plug

Hi all. My Father has kindly fitted a CD/radio in my Townie but I am getting a whirring interferance noise which I have been told is being caused by the alternator. How do I remove the plug at the back of the alternator so I can fit a radio suppressor.

Sorry. I don't know if it makes any diference but I should have mentioned that it is a petrol and not a diesel. I don't want to yank the plug off incase I damage it.

Linda. Are you the lady with the 2.2 EFI Russian import? If your Ace is anything like my 2.0 EFI then all you need to do is squeeze the clip on the side of the plug and pull. My plug is round with the clip facing away from the engine. I found that it was easiest to get to the plug from underneath. However, before you go ahead and fit a suppresor to the alternator have you tried other sources of possible interferance. The indicators and the wippers can cause radio interferance. It might be better to fit a inline suppressor to the CD/radio. HTH. Bill.
