(Home) Towing a 4x4

Sorry if this has already been covered in the Ace Answeres, but I couldn't find anything. The Masterace just got hit from behind, and with the insurance money I decided to by a Lucida, Estima. Well yesterday it got filled up with petrol instead of diesel and then broke down a couple miles latter. When the guy came to tow it, I didn't think it was a 4x4 but after looking underneath he said it was. So I new it couldn't towed from what I heard, but he said it would be ok for just a little bit. He towed it for about 1/4 th a mile about 20mph to a different place where he could pick it up with a flat bed tow truck. Do you think this could have done any damage? And once the petrol is drained and diesel put back in is there anything else I should do, like change the fuel filter? Thanks!

Hello Drew
I've not heard that it's bad to tow a 4x4, but it is bad to tow an automatic. The automatic transmission needs the oil to be pumped round and cooled. Under towing this doesn't happen, but even so a quarter of a mile at 20mph shouldn't have caused any damage either way.
