(Home) Replaced head ,having problems

I have a 4wd Toyota Town Ace,Royal Lounge (2L),Auto,k reg....I have had the head replaced and the injectors
but when I got the car back it drove very poorly, there was no power in it and loads of smoke came out of it , I think the tubo does not cut in as the light
rarely comes on, I have taken it back but they gave it back again and it is still poor(This garage imports and fixes town aces), Can any one give me ideas that may be the problem so I can tell them to try them,I have paid £1057 so far..many thanks mark

Duff turbo/ wastegate, boost leak?

If it is not a problem with the turbo, as per David's suggestion, was the performance "normal" before the repairs were carried out? If so,the repairers are liable to put right these new problems. If they are familiar with Townaces, and have access to the engine manual etc, it would be unthinkable that the timing is out. Replacing the head does involve removing the camshaft pulley and, replacing the cambelt. Are they sure that the engine has been timed correctly. I think it would run, just, with one tooth out on the timimg belt but, I would ask them to re-check.

thanks for your replies,I had no problems before and the vehicle ran very well.Ill take it back again and get them to check the timing, they told me the turbo worked fine as they tested it..

You could checkout the vacuum pipe work in case there has been an inadvertent switching of some of the pipes. A description of the vac pips is on http://mpvi.net/ie/ievacian.htm and a picture is on http://mpvi.net/ig/igvacian.jpg

Mark as a precaution make sure that your townie is not overfilled with oil, this causes excessive smoke and if u are really unlucky as I was after having the head changed ( cost me £1,200 + £8,600 for a new car) the turbo starts to feed off the engine oil and not the fuel, this is usually fatal for the engine. Don't want to worry u but just check I would hate for anyone to be caught like I was. Marc

i have had a overheating problem develop on my replacement engine. With the rad cover removed you can see the water bubbling.
Any ideas?
If it is the Head gasket what will it cost to repair?
Is it better to replace the engine?
I would appretiate your oppinion as I only have women to talk to.

Thanks for all the replies, after looking at the engine the kick down cable was out and not screwed in properly,it worked a lot better and had no smoke and more power, turbo light still didnt come on properly, drove about 40 miles and broke down,,a grating noise from the engine somewhere and loads of smoke (white/blue).took it back to Garage and now he says the Turbo is broken ,the cost is approx £450 for part and labour..hoping to get it fixed and everything will be fine,But ive decided to sell as I dont know a lot about cars and I believe these cars r better for people who know a little mechanics as it has cost me a arm and a leg so far..many thanks mark

You never had a problem before the head gasket problem and now the turbo has died?
I would seek a solicitor, I think the turbo oil feed has been stopped, don't let him get a way with it.
