(Home) Cam belt

We have been quoted £300 to have a new cam belt fitted on our "f" reg Townace, does that sound about right to anyone??

£300 is about top whack. I believe its roughly a five hour job so £300 is about £60 per hour so I would shop around a bit. If you can find a good mobile mechanic you might get it down to £125 ish at the cheapest.

Whilst your at it consider changing the water pump. This runs off the back of the cam belt, so if it starts to leak some time in the near future, you will be paying for all that labour again. Its about an extra half hour or so to fit and just under £40 for an ADL pump.

I paid £70 for my timing belt change, plus £25 for genuine Toyota Belt. Depending on where you live the Toyota dealer should quote you about £150-£200 to fit a new one you could have a word with a mechanic at the dealership who may offer to do it on the side, a friend paid £75 for the job on a camry with 2ct engine on the side at the dealer. It took 3hrs on this vehicle.
