(Home) Rear wiper wipeout

Wonder if anyone can help with problem of rear wiper not working on 1992 4x4 Townace? Have read archives but not being too technically minded I'd be grateful for some extra ideas. Washer still works, wiper arm started to slow down when in use and has now given up completely. Could it be the motor and if so how do I replace it? Otherwise my Townie is great, had it 2 years, driven every day, only power steering pump and xxxxx no. of tyres replaced. Thanks in anticipation of your help!

Mechanism might be seized, or the motor burnt out or a combination...
Easy enough to remove- arm and retaining nut off from outside, door panel off, then bolts and wiring on inside. You can then seperate the motor from the link mechanism to see where the problem is.
But before you strip it out, check your fuses and do a voltage check going to the motor.

Oh and if the motor actually IS duff, I've go a spare one ;-)

I just boiught a 92 previa van but the rear wiper doesn't work. Washer still works. Does anyone know of a common problem on this van ? Are there any parts I should look for already ?

Thanks

Thanks for advice Dave. Know how to check fuses and now how to remove wiper arm, but how do I do voltage check? :0 Might be daft question, sorry. If motor does turn out to be a gonner then I'd be interested your spare.

Well, if the fuses are OK, you'll need a voltmeter or a test light to verify that you've 12v and ground at the motor. One of the wires could be damaged at the taigate hinge...

In the end all I had to do was remove rear wiper arm and free up mechanism with WD40 - whole thing was caked underneath with dirt thrown back up from road when driving, (should wash car more often...). So nothing sinister after all. Thanks for support anyway, it gave me the courage to have a go myself.
