(Home) Overheating problem

OK I admit it I got limited/no knowledge of mechanics, but am keen to learn. At the moment I have a wonderful Townace which I enjoy greatly. On a recent return from Bristol I experienced overheating problems. The temperature guage didnt show that the engine was hot, yet after 50 miles seam was venting from the engine from the front of the vehicle. My first though was water pump, but as I mentioned I know little concerning mechanics, so would appreciate any possible theories......

Hello Jim.
If you were belting down a motorway at 70+ and it overheated, then it could be a sign of a failing viscous coupling. If your speed was moderate, then there are many possibilities.
Can you give us a bit more information on this?
The unmodified temperature gauge is about as much use as the built in compass, so one thing you should consider is to get one of Dave Masons temp alarms and fit it as soon as you can. Then you will be able to see the correct temperature.
