on my 86 space cruiser when I fill up to max my fuel gauge shows full till it runs down to about 3/4 then shows empty (stops working) then when the fuel gets to just over 1/4 tank it starts working again not a major problem but I would like to have ago at fixing it

sender unit in fuel tank is faulty, have had this on variuos cars in past. the arm that goes across the coil does not make contact with the coil along the length of it, might be abhle to bend arm or easier to replace with secondhand unit...
