(Home) Rear bumper

Hi Dave or Clive.
I have a slight problem.
Was in car park the other day, obviously another car hit the rear of ours damaged bumper,I've got new bumper, even same colour, managed to undo the bolts underneath, but can't get top ones out due to sheared thread can you advise, because I don't want to damage anything.
Cheers

Drill them out? Nut splitter? Or if you can't wait like me, the best tool ever invented angle grinder!
If you have released the ones at the end/sides, can you lever it a bit? As long as you are careful of the ends the rest is covered bodywork which can be bent back into place, should it bend which I doubt. The bumper is very strong but the bolt heads should pop through. Before you start make sure you have bolts to put the new one on with.

Cheers Clive.
In the end I got fed up used a big hammer & chisel
split head in four, then knocked off each section.
Bolt came straight out, able to fit new bumper. While my luck was with me,Also fitted two new front doors, new sliding door, and new tailgate all matching colour, plus fitted new rear heater and new pipes.
Now what else is there to go wrong?
Cheers

I've just got to see your Ace - are you going to an Ace Jam?
You don't work for Toyota and walk out with a new bit each day do you, LOL?

Hi Clive.
When you say you want to see our Ace,well I don't work for Toyota!,and all the bits are not brand new, just in good condition, you know along either side you have a trim strip, well everything above there is fine. It's below there that has to be sorted out. Slight corrosion problem, had to repair rear wheel arch last summer as when we shut sliding door, part of it fell out, plus just behind sliding door rail bit of corrosion, all little things that need sorting out before Bridport Acejam, yes clive I will be at the Bridport one,I don't actually drive, the wife does, but I'm more fanatical about the Spacecruiser than she is.She bought it three years ago costing £900.Then we saw an exact one in same colour for sale last year for £200 for spares or repair.so we bought it,used the all doors off it which were in bloody good nick.Just a bit of body filling and spraying in places and she's done. But I spoke to Dave Bright, because I'm helping him sort out directions to the Bridport Acejam, and he said don't worry too much about it not being in perfect condition, that's not what it's all about.also it's not about anybody having a better van than anyone else, and you know that made me feel a lot better, just a happy bunch of people.
I really like coming on here and reading about other peoples probs with their Aces, and how they've fixed them and also to get some tips for ours as well, which I can say that it really has helped us in time and saving of money,as we all know that these beauties aren't cheap to run.Well I'm gonna shut up now but before I go I would like to say to everybody who contributes and run the site, keep up the good work!.
LONG LIVE THE TOWNIE/SPACECRUISER AND ANY OTHER ACE!
Cheers

Andy/everyone,
I endorse Daves statement "It is not about who has the best ACE" - it is not a judging show, just a get together to share knowledge/views/jokes, the fact that you have turned up makes you a winner. My own Ace won't win any prizes, the lacquer coat has had it, it has lumps and bumps, the alloy wheels have started to show old age and so on. So don't worry about the rust, and those of us who have a Spacecruiser will know about the rust! My own one had the offside bottom edge replaced by a neat welding job, sprayed over and yes you could see the joins but it looked ok. What was more important was it kept it on the road for another 3 years that I had it, and this is what it is all about, keeping the Ace going. Any hints and tips you pick up can only help that cause.
Long live the ACE in whatever body it has!

Hi Clive.
Well mate what you said made me feel a whole lot better, like I say see you at the Bridport Jam.
You'll recognise our Cruiser (Burgundy Red,
What colour was your cruiser?

My Cruiser was blue, so light a shade that it looked silver, with darker blue below the rubbing strip. Well I say darker blue perhaps blue with dusty pink two tone rust that went black when wet. Some hot hatch owners pay a lot of money to have a paint job like that! See you all at Brean/Bridport/Woodvale.

Hi Clive.
Funny you should say that offside bottom edge on your cruiser went naff, ours has gone the same.
I would have thought nearside would be worse as you get all the crap from the side off the road.
Cheers
