(Home) Turbo ...how noisey

While im watching/reading replies to my last posting.I thought i`d ask another Q...Just how much noise should the turbo produce..when i mean noise...whistle.
As mine is fairly loud, but has been so for a long long time without change?also... I presume as mine is an auto that there is no point adding a "dump value" as the there is no break in between gear changes to release the pressure?

Dump valve won't work on a diesel, no throttle valve to make the pressure build up.

Whistle shouldn't be that loud. If it is, you're looking at either a boost leak or a flakey turbo bearing...

Is there a common point/place for a boost leak?I have tried my best to look for any hair line cracks etc.surely if the bearings are on the way out it would have got worse overpast years+with my driving style(not for the faint hearted!).

Not necessarily. A slightly iffy thrust bearing may go om for ages. Funnily enough there's a townie round the corner from me that's been howling like a banshee for a year or two...

Boost leak? Not very much to check on the townie. Just the hose from the turbo and then the alloy pipe over the top of the engine to the inlet manifold.
