(Home) Diesel pump leak

hi i have been chasing a leak on this pump for over a week, i have now found a leak on at the back under the manifold, it is an oval plate held in position by two M6 allen screws.
(A) what is the best way to attack this leak ?
1. remove the pump and do it on the bench.
please tell me the order of stripping/reassembly.
2. remove the manifold and work through the gap.
please tell me the order of stripping/reassembly
(B) will i be disturbing any thing that i shouldn't
ie shims or springs when i remove the plate.
(C) what type of seal is it gasket or o ring.
the pump is on a 2L td townace.
as always i am very greatfull of any advice.
richard.

It's an Oring, and there's another one on the matching cover on the L/H of the pump. Easiest to pull the pump- might want to do the t/belt at the same time.
Shouldn't be any springs or shims under that plate, they're all under the L/H one.

Stripdown is all in the RM025E manual. Oh, and BTW, you gotta remove the pump to get the manifold off...
