Well covered in Ace Answers archive, most likely a vacuum hose fallen off, but could be solenoid valve, actuator on transfer box or others, but check vacuum hoses first, as these leak or fall off for a past time.

thanks for the info. i am one of the owners who isn't mechanicaly minded and after several over heat's, i have lost faith in the car. at present im looking at the mitsubishi delica's and have heard good things about them( the pre 94 models)

Huge fuel consumtion is what I've heard about them.

The big engined versions, like the 2800 TD seem to do very low twenties to the gallon, far worse than we're used to on the Townie.

Off-road ability is far superior due mostly to a more off-road oriented suspension system and larger diameter wheels and tyres.
They are mechanically very similar to the Pajero (not sure if that's what it was called in the UK?) and I have been told that they use many components from that.

They are larger and the engine is larger, so you would assume that they wouldn't be quite as good on fuel.
They seem to fairly comfy though.

They also have the super select (not sure if it was '94 though) which gives the option of 2WD, constant 4WD (on road), locked center 4WD, and low range 4WD.

Pajero would be Shogun in the UK...

Funnily enough, I hear that Mitsu engine is prone to munching it's head in a similar way to the townie ( local rad specialist reckons thay take out the rad through overpressurisation at the same time)

Always thought they were cute, in a sort of a mean, rugged kinda way :-)
