(Home) Gear box dip stick

I have just brought a Masterace Surf 2ltr TD, I have looked all over this site and have now given up, Just where is the dipstick and filler for the gear box, I am becoming quite stressed about my inability to find this item, please, I know all you clever people who have had one of these vehicles for some time might find this question stupid, but just having brought one I am at a dead end, thanks in advance to anyone who supplies the answer, Roger

Automatic gearbox - passenger side of engine towards the rear and down a bit. Reach down a bit and there you are. Mine has a spring clip that needs to be raised to pull the stick out. Note level should be read with engine hot and running after using the box, to get a true reading.
I sure it is in the handbook section on Ace answers.
Well done on the Master Ace I'm sure you will be pleased.

Is the gearbox automatic? If manual, I am sure there is no dipstick but, a level plug. If auto, the dipstick is situated to your right as you look at the engine, with the passenger floor up, from the left of the vehicle. It is at the very back of the engine, quite low down, between the air filter and engine block, probably hidden by a number of wires and vacuum pipes. The dipstick tube is also the filler tube. When you find it, spray the ring handle/securing clip with some red or yellow paint and it will be much easier to see in future. Alternatively, get under the vehicle and trace the long filler/dipstick tube, from the lefthand side of the autobox, and see where it rises up to the left hand side of the engine.
No, your question is not stupid, you are in good company with this one. It is VERY hard to see.

Thanks for that, what a pain in the bum tis is, who ever thought of putting it there should have a good kick, as you can guess I have found it !!, that was the first job, even after taking off the air filter pipe trying to get two hands in to release the dip stick was an impossibility, so will try again next week, if I can't manage it, my garage will have to do it, thank you both for your comments.Roger

Eh? Why so difficult? Just slide a finger down between the clip and the shaft of the handle to ease it out, then pull...
