(Home) Insurance

HELP! I have just purchased a Toyota Town Ace Super Extra. Diesel Model with what I believe is a 2C-T engine with turbo fitted. The vehicle has air conditioning and electric windows. The front rear seats swivel around the back fold up and their are curtains fitted. Manufactured 1989 In the UK since 1998.
My problem is that I contacted my insurers prior to purchase to sort out insurance as I wanted to use vehicle for business and pleasure as I work as a service engineer and the load capacity suited me better than an Escort and as good as my current Transit. Having got the all clear and confirmed the insurance details to swap I have purchased the vehicle. NOW THEY ADMIT THEY GOT IT MIXED UP WITH A HI ACE UK standard vehicle and they can't insure it.

I contacted LV as on your site, they don't insure Commercially and they state they couldn't insure any other way as it is a 1974cc Diesel and they only have the 1976cc Diesel on their system registered.

So does any one out there know some one suitable to insure me or put me in the right direction if not does any one want to buy a functional Town Ace as I am totally peeved off with the hassle I have had thus far.

I can't believe the last 5 owners have driven without insurance for the last 6+ years.

Great site by the way and fantastic info.

Regards and in anticipation.

Steve.

Try Direct Line and Tesco

Hello Steve.
L&V tend to be a bit hit and miss with quoting for insurance these days, so this does not surprise me. Quibeling about 6cc is a bit strong, as is the non commercial bit, I have full commercial insurance on my Townace Royal lounge and I am insured with L&V.
There are many others like Tesco who are less choosey, listed on www.Townace.com as well as in other posts further down the main list.

There have been some positive comments about Footman James (The enthusiasts' insurance broker) recently - www.footmanjames.co.uk

Just to add to the very odd insurance stories, I have just remembered a story I read somewhere about an unfortunate chap who had some sort of accident outside his local supermarket. Fortunately he was insured against such things so he made a claim. Now I have no idea how this resolved itself but it hit the headlines for this bizarre reason. Because he was insured by Tesco and had had an accident on Tesco property, they said that they would not be able to pay out on his policy because they couldn't sue themselves to recover the loss!

Many thanks to all, as I don't shop at Tesco's I have gone with them but Sadly they can't supply a decent Commercial price so I shall keep looking and then change at least it's insured, legal and I can get the Tax sorted. I do now need to sort out a Thatcham Certificate as I have a Selca immoboliser fitted but no proof how easy is it to get certificated and how much will it cost.

take it to a place that fit immobiliser/alarms. they should check it out and give you a certificate that you can use for your insurance - £25.
