(Home) In car dvd hiace

hi,
after much searching i have found a dvd screen with surround that fits exactly in the rear overhead console central cubby hole in a hiace. i also got an in dash dvd player which fills the spare radio gap left by the double size jap unit. i don't know if townies have a similar overhead storage hole as the hiaces, but if any hiave owners are interested it is the 6 inch screen with headrest mount and in dash player from impex - screen cost £169, player cost £100.

Hi Jason

My Hiace super custom still has the JAP Panasonic unit installed, but no use cus its NTSC as you probably know.

If I take the Panasonic out, how easy was it to fix this unit securely into the hole ? How did you run the cables?

Jason,
Mine didn't have a screen there to begin with - it had a storage box. I am talking about in the centre of the rear overhead concole between the aircon controls. The storage box came out with a couple of screws to reveal a large hole with a metal bracket around the edge. The metal bracket just clipped out and all that was needed was a slight "trimming" of the edges of the hole to get the new surround to fit snugly in. I secured it by fitting a cable tie though the back of it and through a bracket deep inside the hole - as the cable tie was tightened then it pulled the new surround tightly in.
The only bables required were a single RCA cable for the picture (i sent the audio to the stereo)and the switched power out of the dvd - it was quite easy to run the 2 cables behind the glovebox, under the carpet beside the passenger fornt door, up behind the plastic trim where the passengers seatbelt is and then into the overhead console. (I found a new earth in the console). By using the switched power from the dvd player the screen goes off when the player is turned off. Let me knkow if you need any more advice. Do you have a digital camera as I would like to see apicture of the proper screen install there to see how it compares to mine - I had not realised that this was a normal place for screen.

thanks for that. Yes this is the proper place for the TV. Mine has a Panasonic unit. This is a normal tube type tele and uses up all that space you were on about.

Send me an email so I have your address and I'll send you some pictures. of it
