It sounds like your small leak is getting worse!
Best off repairing it quick before it gets so bad it dumps all your coolant and wrecks the engine.

First check/change radiator cap and rad hoses. lift seat and watch hoses at idle speed and on high revs. if hoses suck in on selves thats your problem...

That sounds serious to me, if the water pukes out when you rev it I suggest you get the coolant checked for exhaust contamination.
Are you friends with your bank manager?

I don't want to raise false hope ("dark green" sounds bad) but the Ace cooling system must be re-filled VERY slowly or air is trapped in various places - such as the heaters. Then when it warms up that air expands and pushes out a lot of coolant. A quick top-up and you've re-created the same problem - which may have started after your inital leak.

Fill very slowly, to the brim in the rad and half-full in the exp tank. Check and top up under cap every time it cools down until it stays brim full.

jason,

I feel by what you say that you may have to take off the head to see if head gaskit has blown or you have a cracked head, you now have a problem to find a good garage, let us know the area you live and maybe someone can recommend a garage

hi all filled the system so slow that christmas has come for everyone but not me. i feel as the prob is in the head gasket thanks to all

- (#9411) JASON K, 26 Mar 04 13:07

Hi Jason.
Have you fixed that leak yet?

- (#9411) dave Bright (Bournemouth), 26 Mar 04 14:07

Hi jason. It does sound a little like a head gasket.
If you take off the oil filler cap is there whitish gunk? this would mean water mixing whith oil.
A cheap check is to get a garage to do a gas check on the coolant for traces of fuel in the water system £3 - £6.
A head set will cost you around £30 if you fancy doing it yourself, if you do you may as well regrind the valves to boot (I did)
I hope this has helped. Ian.

Greetings,

After being made aware of your site and some of the difficulties you've experienced, I felt compelled to leave our company link for you. I realize this is likely not proper, so I will not pitch a sale here. If you read our site and choose to further explore, we do have two dealers in the UK.

Kind Regards,

Doug

Dave, do you want to handle this one, LOL

Don't mind fielding this one at all dave.
Hi Doug,
I bought a 55 US gallon drum last year and tried it out on my Townace and my Fathers Omega.
Works great on the Omega but not on the Townace. The main reason is that the expansion tank is outside the pressurized system and is prone to absorbing moisture from the air. This leads to 5% water content in the cooling system generally. On the Omega though the expansion tank is pressurized and forms part of the thermostat bypass system so that coolant constantly flows through it. No problem with water content here happily. A Zero pressure radiator cap wasn't perhaps the best idea either, as this allowed moisture to penetrate the system much easier and resulted in an even higher water content.

Sadly I blew a head gasket 3 months after installing NPG+ but I have no idea if it was the NPG+ or old age that caused it. It was good stuff though because even with a blown head gasket, I was able to drive around for 3 weeks with no overheating at all! Happily I have sold off 3/4 of the 55 gallons to non Townace owners and will be ordering another barrel soon.

PS you may know me better as Dave from Automatic Windings, your UK distributor.

Hi Dave,

My apologies for not making the connection. I've sent a copy of your post down to our sales / tech support. Of course you’ll expect to hear this, but I do not see how NPG+ could have contributed to the gasket failure. I do understand the atmospheric water absorption would be a problem with the tank. Zero pressure; may I suggest you move up to a 7lb cap. For a few reasons, that is our latest recommendation. Do you have our old instructions? Take a look at our tech pages > installation guide.

Regards,

Doug
