just wanted to thank everyone who helped give me ideas to sort out the coolant loss on my townie.turned out to be the small pipe at neck, near rad cap being split,so not sucking coolant back on cool down.not lost a drop in 2 weeks now.still have`small nissan`rad cap.seems ok.should i leave it as it is for now?also,if coolant is pretty clear,is there any need to flush the system?

Jamie
Glad to hear you got prob sorted,i had small hole in side of up right rad, been welded now and holding water
the problem with keeping to top up cooling system is you weaken the anti-freeze mix and once you solve the leak problem its easy to forget if mixture is right.i had my system drained , flushed out and a 50/50 mix put back in,and every now and then i place a sheet of cardboard under engine to show me any leaks and more important where abouts the leak is dropping from , i found 3 leaks on my system.

Get the rad cap changed, fill up with correct anti=freeze mix, it raises the boiling point of the water, so is needed just as much in summer. Fingers crossed the new coolant does not seek out any further leeks.
