(Home) Mason temp gauge alarm

Hi everyone... Can anyone tell me how you set the temp gauge alarm on my F reg Master Ace Surf 2.0l TD

The overtemperature alarm (and gauge expander) is not a Toyota item. It has to be bought, from me, and fitted, though not if your F reg has the gauge which works "upwards" - sorry those are still problematic. Otherwise fitting is easy and it comes with clear instructions regarding fitting and setting.

I'm considering an alternative to the alarm. Probably not as good ! but then I'm a cheapskate !
I've got a digital temperature guage that reads up to 200C and operates with a type K thermocouple lead. I was thinking of attaching the thermocouple to somewhere ( not yet decided ) on the "plumbing" and having a live readout of temperature by placing the display somewhere visible within the cab. The thermocouple would need to be placed somewhere that minimises cooling by airflow but also is responsive enough to detect small, rapid changes in temperature.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I feel you are missing the point here, the alarm device does not just sound off an audible warning when the temperature rises it also acts to change the way the actual temperature guage reads to make the measurement meaningful.

Your idea is sound, if you want to take a temperature reading you could bond the sensor to the engine block or head with some epoxy resin or adhesive, when cured this should be at approximately the same temperature as the area it is bonded to, and the air flow over it should not affect the reading significantly.
But you will still need to monitor the guage constantly whereas the alarm allows you to relax a bit.

I also suspect that the actual alarm is no where near as fuzzy as the picture. (Sorry Dave)

i plan to wisely invest in a temp alarm but are they simple to fit and where do i fit it in my ace? how do i get one and how much are they. my ace is a 1989 royal lounge 4x4 2.0 efi.

I have just fitted one of these alarms and can highly recommend it. Easy to fit with good instructions. Costs £24 and you can get it by going to ace hand book and then cooling and heating section on this site.
Another good investment in my opinion is to get the radiator re-cored. The bottom 1/3rd of my radiator was blocked and cleaning and flushing does not clear this.
