(Home) Not starting when hot

hello,i have a f reg royal lounge,i have 2 problems the first is,if i have been sitting in traffic for sometime the engine ticks over very ruff to the point that the whole bus is shaking.but if i then go to fill up with diesal or do a delivery.it wont start until its cooled down (i think) which is normally about 15mins.but if you keep turning the key really quickly that sometimes makes it start, but still after some time.we have replaced the starter moter.but it stilldoes it.normally when i've had a really bad day and just want to go home.my 2nd problem is my heater fane,it makes a very strange noice.it doesnt matter what speed you have it on.the noice is still the same,it doesnt seem to be as powerful as it use to,it doesnt clear the front windscreen any more, and if you dont remember to switch if off before turning off the engintion.it wont start up again until you have taken out the clove compartment and turned it buy hand.any ideas anyone, only it getting to the stage when i might have to do a basil fortey on it and bit it with a stick.

At a guess I would say you have climate control? If this is so, there is what looks like a small speaker type vent in the dashboard to the left of the steering column. This is the climate control sensor fan. Try giving it a thump and see if things improve.

Your lumpy engine sounds like a fuel problem. May be best off taking it to a diesel specialist. Its a bit costly but otherwise you could muck around for months and still not improve it. Only other option is to double dose the fuel tank with Millers Diesel power plus. Its an additive that helps clean the injectors and lubricate the fuel system.

Can you just clarify, Dudley - when you go to start it from hot, is the engine turning but not catching, or is there just a click coming from the region of the starter, and the engine doesn't turn at all? If the later, it is well documented on Ace Answers, or e-mail me and I will tell you what worked for my Townie...

Sounds to me like the fan bearing is seizing up, maybe if you can get it out and clean and lube it you may save it, or else look for another, I had the same thing years ago on another make of vehicle, thing was this was a major task to get out so I never bothered.

After trying to hot start it, does it puke smoke like a cold start, if not is suggests fuel starvation, as does the lumpy running, when was the last time the filters were changed?

The problem with the fan was the bearing. ie new fan
the starting when hot, well its now not starting when cold (bless!)it is just a click,we wondered if it could be a relay.if so which one!
