(Home) Central locking

When I recieved my townace (1990 t/d)I didnt get an original set of keys .IF they had been complete would they have consisted of keys plus hand held remote for Central locking/immobiliser? Or does it all work on the turn of the key in drivers door ?If I am missing remote will I have to get it from toyota or are such things easy to get hold of? All help greatly appreciated.Ray

1990 model (same age as mine) only has central locking facility from the front right hand rocker switch on the drivers door armrest. This rocker switch is illuminated when your lights are on. There is a "door(s) unlocked" red light on the dashboard which illuminates if you have not pressed the lock switch. I believe this feature is for legal reasons in the japanese home market. Turning the door key only works that particular door, not like uk central locking.

There are no general rules for these diverse cars but I think that whilst it would be true to say you can only do central UNlocking from that manual switch, in fact central LOCKING should be possible three ways - all on the driver's door - by that manual switch, by pushing down the pop-up locking button by the window and by turning the key in the door lock.

Also the "doors" red dashboard light is activated either by any of the 4 doors not being fully closed (very useful) OR by the tailgate being unlocked, even if fully closed (a very baffling feature which one day I intend to disable). Yes it will be out if you press "all doors lock" on the armrest, or lock the tailgate manually, or if you unlocked the other doors in the first place without using the central unlocking.

This sounds picky but if a new owner is trying to understand the system then these subtleties can make a difference.
