Andy,
Lets hope the dealer sorts it out for you, which one was it?
To be fair it is the Dealers Mechanics who should fix and foot the bill.
Keep us up to date and whats happening and once you have a working Ace we can meet up.

I would go out and get that sucker good and hot, if it has overheated like that the head could be cracked.

Waving, I have seen loads of these sort of things too, like you I always pay attention but rarely get a second glance except when you know your van has struck a chord in the other persons heart;-)
I am far more conservative about this, years ago bikers would normally wave, but when it got invaded by all these nubes in their matching leathers etc it stopped, if you wave they looke at you as though you were the stupid one.....
In France all the bikers wave it is great.

Whilst, yes, if you pay someone to fix your car you expect it fixed, I wonder if Andy's experience is yet another in a pattern. ("Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance" springs to mind)

Is it necessary to run the engine to hot and let it cool several times AND check and top up the coolant each time, in order to be sure that all the air is expelled and coolant drawn back in? And "several" may be into double figures.

To expect the repairer to have done this may be reasonable but if they haven't which is better? Simply to cook the engine, take it back, lose the use of it for even longer and lose confidence that it is properly repaired? Or to do some frequent radcap/coolant checks yourself (which any Ace owner is going to have to do anyway, though perhaps only once or twice a month) after its been in for a repair which involves refilling the coolant?

hi me again.opps sorry i forgot to tell you all the full story.they fixed the head gassgit .some body had fitted the wrong one so the holes dident match up.this lack of h2o led to the gassgit failer & exhaust manifold to warp .bristol mpv fixed the lot.the rest was air. all working well now. water a ok.will keep an eye on it though.waving andy .:)
