When I drive the townie, the central locking decides to come unlocked , this seems to be abit weird. Also the light on the dashboard seems to be on..

The door open light also acts as a warning that the tailgate is unlocked. It sounds like you might have a short somewhere, possibly in the loom between the drivers door and van. If that unlocks all the doors, then the tailgate will flag as unlocked.
