(Home) Central locking

Hi Clive.
I spoke to you a while ago about the front doors on our cruiser not having the central locking fitted.
you said salvage some motors and other bits from a dead townie, well we bought a cruiser as spares!
What I was wondering if the motors on the tailgate and sliding door would be suitable to use on the two front doors?.
If so please advise of how I'd fit them in as to regards to the wiring and would the linkages to the locks be the same?,also if when fitted when you turn the key would it lock all the doors?
Please advise

Andy,
The door motors are the same, the fixing bracket may need some modification, take one of the old front door apart and you will see where it fits. The Townace CD gives them all different part numbers, the rear door one looks the most likely to fit the drivers door, You will need to fabricate the link to the lock, part nos for Townace - RH 69721-87002 LH 69722-87002, there is a vacant hole at the bottom of the lock. Wire up in tandem with the side and rear and they should all work together. As to working of off the key, Toyota have used a simple system without the master solenoid, so you will need to find/make a switch that can be linked to the interior door C/L switch, and worked from the key. Think about the power being used, you may need to up the fuse rating?

It might work out easier top just buy a two door central locking kit from your local car accessory shop. Moss security do a kit which you can probably link you existing locking motors to. This kit has five wire motors in, which sense the locking of the motor to fire the other motors, this does away with the need to have a separate switch in the door to fire the locking.

There you are, I knew someone would come up trumps.
Does the Moss kit do a remote control module?
May as well go the whole way.

I think you would have to fit one of their alarms that can control the central locking via an interface, but yes it can be done, fitted Moss alarms with central locking interfaces, and even their locking systems to many a car & they work perfectly, just devote a little time to thinking the layout correctly & making sure all switches etc operate correctly & you'll be fine, if you test it thoroughly then you shouldn't get false alarms either.

Hi Clive and Rob.
And many thanks for the advise on central locking.
Will try the first option,if no luck will probably go for the two door locking option but wire existing locks into that.Am I right in saying that if I go for the first option as Clive recommended, I unlock drivers side door as normal with key, then use button on armrest to unlock other doors?,is this right and how they work on Townaces?
Please advise on this further.
Cheers
