(Home) Original fitment radio aps switch

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me what the APS switch on the original fitment 'TEN' radio/cassette in my 1989 Royal Lounge is for. When I press it numbers appear in a little window but nothing else seems to happen.

If memory serves correctly the APS switch is for Automatic Program Search. This look for the gaps in the music on a tape & each time you press the switch it will skip 1-2-3-etc tracks to find the one you want when you press FF or RWD. The units fitted in the Townie were pretty state of the art for late eighties & this sort of facility was quite unusual.

Hope this helps, regards Rob.

Thanks Rob. I have just tried it again this time with a tape playing and yes your correct it does do what you say. I have had the Ace three years and like the saying says 'you learn something new every day'.

Just a thought. how nice it was for Bill to come back onto here & 'thank' me for providing info to him, this is good for two reasons, firstly it makes those of us who give advice feel better about doing so & secondly & more importantly it confirms that we have answered the relevant query correctly. Thanks to Bill & a plea to all other posters out there to reply with a 'result' to those on this board that help them.

I also contribute to a Garage Trade based forum, we suffer the same problem there about people not coming back with the 'result'.

Regards Rob.

hi rob/bill

i have had my 1990 royal lounge for over 3 years now,
i have the original model 1416 radio unit with the frequency expander, this picks up all vhf so it fits the bill, i see no reason to change, cassette deck is underneath. my aps switch is in the ff/fr switch on the cassette deck and this does do a search for the next track, i also have a built in graphics equalizer that can have 4 pre-determined settings or 3 programmable settings of choice.
the only switch i have that fits bills description is next to the radio display it is a small switch with undecipharable japanese on it and all it does is change the display to 1620, i am thinking that it may be an emergency frequency used in japan on the am scale.
