(Home) Insurance / Immobiliser

Could anybody please tell me the function of the flashing red light on top of the steering wheel shroud which encloses stalks for lights /indicators .Is it an Immobiliser? Also looking for insurance and found it strange that L/V wouldnt quote for Super Extra but would quote for Royal Lounge (GOOD QUOTE £221)!!whats the difference between these vehicles?and did they have factory fitted immobilisers? all help greatly appreciated in these matters Ray

Not a factory fit. Does it go out with ign on?
It's a Townace, may have captains seats or climate control or a different style bumper, all cosmetic, it has the same running gear and engine. Not like a VW CL and GTi who are completly different beasts.

The Royal lounge is I think the top of the range and is on the L&V list. I believe that everything else is on the list as manual, so if yours is not a RL but is automatic, then they won't insure it. Sounds daft I know but that's insurance companies for you. There is a company called "Dorest insurance" that specialise in imported MR2 insurance. I rang the other day an they said they new the Townace and will insure them, but that's as far as I got because the person I needed was on another call, and I haven't phoned back yet.

Your flashing light could be just that, just a flashing light. Unless you have a thing on your key ring that immobilisers usually have.

The light is flashing with engine running or not (no captains seat but has a/c ).Should I just say standard townace for the quotes ?And if it did have an immobiliser Where is it and what does it look like? The companies are asking for "certificate of fitting" for the immobiliser ,which could shave hundreds of pounds off the quote for the insurance, and I havent got a certificate!! .As i didnt get original keys I dont know if its got a remote. continuing Thanks Ray

Guess yours is just a blinking diode £2.99 from a shop near you.
My remote locking cat 1 alarm cost £210 two years ago. Saved some money on insurance but not much.

Hi Ray
I think you should look into getting a cat2 immobiliser fitted to your townie. Price starts around £80 fitted + certificate. You could pay £210 for a cat1 but the savings on the insurnce are the same (ish). My insurnce fell by nearly £200 once i had it fitted.

If £80 is to much at the moment and you need insurnce then phone Adrian Fluxx. They will insure your townie superace no probs. Good price too!

Hope this helps

The best insure I`ve found (so far) is Lifesure.

I pay around £340 for a MasterAce Surf. 5 yrs ncb.
