(Home) Temp sender, smoke and rad cover thanks

Hello, I've just got my own Townace 1995 2.0 TD Super extra for £2500 and I’m trying to sort out all the little (hopefully) problems as quickly as possible.
One problem is the smoke from the exhaust when stopped. Lots of smoke has poured out a few times when stopped at lights or reversing into a space. I know the truck has been very sparely used for the last 6 months and I’m hoping it has a lot to do with that.
Also my temp sender doesn't work. I need a new temp sender and connecting wire as this is a bit damaged. Does anyone know where I can get one asap? I've also ordered a temp alarm, when should I fit this?
Thanks so far.
Also, from underneath at the front I can see the cover on the rad seems wrong. The fins appear to force the incoming air down to the road. Can someone send my a photo or confirm this is right or wrong?
That's about all what’s bugging me, engine wise.
Thanks all

Smoke - see discussion further down on Emissions.

Temp sender - from Toyota, David Coombs? I hope you're looking at the correct thing. There are a lot of probes in the coolant circuit. The gauge sender is very innaccessible somewhere below the No.3 glow plug.

Fins are right. Air goes in the front grille (provided not too much is covered by number plate) then, yes, some is supposed to go downwards through the electric fan(s), aircon condenser(s) (and horizontal radiator on 4WD) and some continues on to the vertical radiator. See diagrams on Cooling & Heating page of Ace Handbook.
