Any ideas on how and where to get an alternator for a 1990 townace diesel automatic? is there an equivalent lucas part number? can you get brushes from anywhere?

A good auto electric outlet (Lucas) will rebuild your old one for you, for a reasonable price. Should be able to get the carbon bits to fit from same type outlet. Note there are several different alternators fitted to the range, most have the regulator remotely sited behind the dash just above the glove box.
