(Home) Exhaust price. Tyre pressures. Tracking for 2WD.

I know these details were posted here some tima ago, but I cannot find themn anywhere.

I am going to take my 2wd 90 Townie in for the tracking to be done at my local Kwik Fit. I am fed up with uneven wear on my tyres and having to replace them often.

Just in case they do not have any idea, can someone post the details required here, so I can take them with me.

+/- 2 mm toe in

But if you're getting a lot of wear to the outside edge of the tread, bump your tyre pressures up a little, and have the tracking set towards neutral or even verging on toe-out. A lot has to do with your driving style, they're a heavy old bus with a lot of weight over the front wheels...

The wear is on the inside of the tyres (front only)

I have just tried kwik fit for an exhaust, they do not have any on their books for a townie.

I note that BBC spares is not available till next week.
I also note that their price for a rear exhaust is much more than I expected.

Is there anywhere else I can get one?

I only need the rear box, as my tail pipe has gone.

Powerflow, and you will never have to buy another one.
The archives will give location details.

i have just contacted my local powerflow branch, and they quoted me £300 for a complete system minus tail pipe. tail pipes from £10 - £100.

now is it worth spending that much on a 1990 townie just for an exhaust?

i dare say it will be the bees knees, but i would guess that the exhaust will be in excellent condition long after the townie collapses and dies from old age.

it just seems so much to spend on one item for such an old car. how much longer can i expect my townie to be roadworthy?

it,s reliable, very little rust and is a dream to drive, but at the end of the day, it is old!

or am i being silly?

Have you had a quote for a mild steel one yet, or even one from Toyota?

- (#10069) Clive (Bristol), 13 Apr 04 12:17

Appart from contacting Poweflow. = £300
Kwik Fit. + No Go
BBC Spares. Rear section £130 + postage + vat + self fit + they are away till next week.

Have not contacted anyone else.

I thought Toyota's policy was to have nothing tp do with Townies?

Toyota will supply spares, as part of their World Wide support pledge. You may find that getting them to look for part numbers a bit of a trial as they may have to change CDs in the parts PC. Once they/you have a part number it can be ordered in the normal way, some parts have to come from Japan, not only for Townace family but also for the UK Spacecruiser. Try them but be sitting down when they tell you the price!
