(Home) Poor access under driver's seat

hello.

after all the problems i had changing the alternator where i had to undo the retainer on the hi-lo ratio linkage near the air filter and then almost bend the panel out of the way, i was looking at some sort of modification under the driver's seat where i would cut the access panel under the seat by the gears and handbrake etc, and re-join it using pieces of metal underneath so that if and when access is needed i can just undo these extra bolts and take the panel out completely rather than have to prop it up at a stupid angle and work with it in my way.

has anybody tried this or have i just struggled my heart out when there was an easier way to get to the alternator.

i only ask because i obviously didn't tighten up the belts properly and i had to repeat the same procedure just to reradjust them

cheers

brian

But the floor comes out easily! Leave the gearchange in place and disconnect the cables from it. Lift the floor out of the car in one piece.

I think you have been making life difficult for yourself Brian. Taking the floor out can take as little as 15 mins when you've done it a couple of times. The procedure with pics can be found in AceAnswers.

I wouldn't go cutting holes in the floor etc. You could weaken the structure.

My word. Why didn't I look here first. No wonder why I struggled. I think it was because I was dubious about all the linkages in the centre.

Thanks a lot.
