thanks for all your good advice. i tried to loosen filter by hand . i managed to get right under townie and gripped it with both hands and it wouldnt budge. i didnt want to chance it by driving a screwdriver through it incase things got worse and then i couldnt drive anywhere for help so i took it to local garage ad he loosened it with a strap , took it back home and jobs a good one, thanks again.
