There is a small push switch situated below the dash on the drivers side I've had the liteace for a year and only just noticed it. It is a half inch square black surround with a red (illuminating bulb perhaps?) in the centre. It clicks in and out (off and on) but nothing appears to happen whether engine on or off. Any ideas?

Looking in the handbook I have, I think this switch is for "One Touch 2-4wd Selection". Not having a 4wd vehicle I can't really explain any more about its use apart from the handbook description.

"When the Transfer Lever in in the H Position, press the button shown to switch from 2wd to 4wd driving.
Check that this option has been selected correctly by the display in the dash board (a picture that resembles a car with no bodywork).
Caution: Do not press this button when the Transfer Lever is in the L4 option.
Have the front wheels pointing directly ahead when pressing this option.
When selecting the 4wd option from normal 2wd driving, make sure that the Free Wheel Hub is in LOCK position first. Noise or damage can occur to the drive mechanism with the Hub when the FREE position with the 4wd driving option is selected.
The 4wd option is non operational with the Hub in the FREE position even though the display shows the 4wd option.
The 4wd display will be illuminated when the 4wd option is selected.
If the 4wd option will not show when the selector switch is pressed in, make sure that the front wheels are positioned in a straight fashion and drive forward slightly.
Should the 2wd option not show on selection from 4wd, drive forward & then reverse slightly, then try once more."

Sorry to contradict Mark ,but the 4WD switch is about 1 inch wide by 1/2 in ch high & has '4WD' clearly marked on it. The switch that Wendy refers to I think might be more likely to be a rear foglamp switch.

Wendy, try switching on the headlamps & check back of vehicle, now press the switch & see if a foglamp comes on, this would be an aftermarket switch to meet European laws as they don't use foglamps in Japan.
