(Home) Child car seat

hi,
does anyone know of a car seat that will fit safely in my townace rear seat?it only has a lap belt and i have a baby due im august.it needs to be suitable from birth onwards.we could put baby in front seat, with no problems, but mum would have to go in back,so bit of a distraction for me on long journeys.i`ve seen some seats that have a base part that is permanently fixed in car by way of the seat belt and seat itself just clips in.anyone know if this would be compatible with lap belt?
i`d be grateful for any help.

We bought a Graco travel system (the autobase stays in the car). we fitted it in the front captains seat no problem, bit don`t see any problem moving it to the rear (flip-down) seat either... which we will be doing soon.

I got my grand-daughter's seat from Mothercare. They do lap-belt baby seats as well as 3-point belt ones. They are very helpful and will even fit it in the car for you and test it.

We're just about to address this problem ourselves. We have 5 kids. 2 under 3 and a 5,6,8 year old. We have a cruiser now, but are hopefully getting a townace (cos I fancy the swivel seats! as I'm sick and tired of them fighting over who goes in the 'back back'!) I am worried about car seats. Anyone know when they brought in the 3 point belts on the ace? Or maybe there are some seats I can buy? What about fitting 3 point seat belts? any ideas?!

Hi! We have overcome this problem by buying a luggage strap, tightened by a ratchet, from Homebase or Wickes (can,t remember which)for £6.45. We used the lap belt on the single swivel seat to secure the base of the child seat and threaded the luggage strap through brackets on the upper rear of the child seat and around the back of the car seat. Once tightened using the ratchet the child seat is totally secure. I know the child seat is not wholly secured to the bodywork but the base is, and the physical presence of the child seat prevents the back of the car seat from folding forward. I hope this helps.

I used the luggage strap method in my Hiace, my lad can sit facing the back so he is in the swiveller,I threaded my straps round the frame of both the seats, in the end it was more secure than it ever could have been under a inertia strap.
You can get no ratchet straps in halfords, about 6 quid, I would rather not exert too much mechanical force on the frame as the extra strength might be needed in a bash, you can pull it tight enough by hand.
